FDA, Food and Drug Administration is a federal agency in India which make sure that all the food and medical products that are exported from India to United States are safe, hygienic, are of good quality and are effective. There are strict guidelines that have been laid down by FDA in order to get the NOC For Import and export. FDA India works in collaboration with U.S FDA. These agencies make sure that the Embassy Attestation is procured before importing or exporting any food item or drug.
India has recently witnessed a trend of steady increase in the import of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients or APIs. An API is the ingredient in a finished drug that has the intended therapeutic effect. FDA also regulates the import of APIs as drug. There is a proper procedure to get an Approval Of Import Of APIs that is quite strict and is also mandatory.
FDA follows certain laid down procedure to ensure that API is safe and is manufactured by a drug facility that is in compliance with the FDA rules. Though the formulation industry is quite happy about sourcing cheap APIs from China and other countries, the manufacturers in India are quite against it. But FDA just focused on the quality of the drugs that are being imported. FDA makes sure that cheap APIs are cheap only in prices and not in quality. Tough actions are taken against import of bad quality imports to safeguard the existence of Indian pharmaceutical industry and to protect the health of the people of the country.
